When a mental health evaluation may help

A mental health evaluation may be appropriate if you:

    • Are experiencing feelings, behaviors, or thoughts, that are getting in the way of your daily life. Some Examples are: Feeling hopeless, empty, or crying frequently, extreme mood swings, impulsivity, chronic anxiety, panic attacks, or uncontrollable anger, Pulling away from friends, family, and activities, struggling to concentrate, remember things, or make simple decisions. shifts in your sleeping patterns or appetite. Having thoughts of self-harm, suicide, or feeling like you want to hurt others.
    • Have limited progress in making changes or feeling any better; no real improvement.
    • Want clarity about a previous diagnosis or have mixed messages from other providers.
    • Want a professional assessment before deciding on starting therapy
    • Need recommendations for the next step
    • Need documentation for school, work, or another organization

Every evaluation is different because every person is different. After your assessment appointment, your clinician will explain the findings, answer your questions, and discuss recommendations. Depending on your needs, that may include documentation requests, referrals, additional services, or no further treatment at all.
